How to Care for The Photosynthetic Gorgonians for Sale from Pacific East Aquaculture

Like we’ve been saying, photosynthetic gorgonians are an excellent beginner’s coral, well-suited to thrive in most tanks. Still, as with all specimens in the reef aquarium landscape, you must do proper research to ensure you’re taking adequate care of your gorgonians. Proper flow is one of the most important factors to keep an eye on. Almost all photosynthetic gorgonians enjoy reasonably strong water movement, but too much flow can interfere with their feeding. The ideal flow you want to achieve lets the gorgonian branches sway and allows food to be swept to them. Lighting is also essential, though photosynthetic gorgonians can tolerate quite the range. If you can only provide them with less intense lighting, they’re sure to be ok, but most species of photosynthetic gorgonians can handle more intense light as well. It’s best to experiment if you can, and see how yours reacts to the different light levels, until you find what’s working best. While the name "photosynthetic gorgonians" may imply they feed purely off light, you should also provide them with some dissolved micro-food regularly to benefit them most.

Placement of Gorgonians is Everything

While the photosynthetic gorgonians for sale from Pacific East Aquaculture are relatively easy to care for, there’s one crucial factor to always keep in mind when purchasing your first: placement. Gorgonians are perfect for adding dimension and landscaping your reef aquarium, but you want to think more about your placement than what’s aesthetically pleasing. As mentioned, photosynthetic gorgonians love light; ensure you have a place for them in your tank where they can be under moderate or high lighting for at least several hours of the day. Most photosynthetic gorgonians thrive more when placed upright, freestanding and secured to a hard surface in your tank. Placing a photosynthetic gorgonian against the glass wall of your tank or another hard surface can impede flow to their tissue and cause them severe damage. Of course, one of the most important rules is to keep your gorgonian at a distance from other corals. Corals tend to sting one another if placed too close together and can damage tissue. To ensure you have healthy gorgonians and other corals, keep them apart.
